A script I wrote has wound up in the hands of a maverick. The pitch is next tuesday, but this guy has'nt got the strongest of work ethics. So he's told me if it does'nt get made hes gonna do it himself on his video camera. This sounds like a cop out to me, he just does'nt wanna do any work for the presentation. Sad thing was the script was actually in with a shout. Sigh, still a lesson learned.
Does everyone here always write and direct they're own stuff?

YES YES AND YES! I have the film in my head, i can play it again and again and i have to write,produce,direct and film it myself and thats because i can as they are shorts.
I have some full length film scripts which i will hold onto untill i get the budget i need because i am such a perfectionist and no-one else will see it how i envisioned it. Again the editing process cn change the whole film so i have to edit and i either a) compose or b) find the music for the piece as well. I am such a control freak! Its true when people say that a script/film is like a child: you just wouldn't give it to someone else to look after!

yep i agree with Bu here - i know what iam capable of - i know what is practical - i know what locations are useable - i write it so i have a clear picture of how it will look in my mind (i will have already made a rough cut before i shoot the film)... even though most of my films dont contain dialog

Most of my films are not that dialouge driven (i write for the theatre and get bored of writing too much dialouge) i love working with sounds and beats and i love silent films that are really scary!

All i'll say is enjoy it while you can folks!
Its kinda frustrating though, if you work with people who wanna make a great film without doing any work.
Before film school, I did do everything myself. On my last short Tammy, someone else did the camera and I don't like it at all, she was a total novice! Its been a good lesson though. I can't afford to be precious about me scripts anymore!

Yeah i know what you mean! Im doing a short thriller with a soundtrack through out and im trying to convince everyone its not a music video!
